Application of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the information that we may collect from you or that you may provide when you access or use RecipeBox’s websites, www.recipebox.com or www.getrecipebox.com, the RecipeBox mobile application, RecipeBox functionality made available through third-party artificial intelligence platforms, and any other related RecipeBox websites, mobile applications, email lists, subscriptions, and other features and communications (collectively, “Services”), and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to information collected by: (a) us offline or through any other means; or (b) any third party, including through any website, application or content (including advertising) that may link to or be accessible from or through the Services.

Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will treat it. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your choice is not to access or use the Services. By accessing or using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy may change from time to time. Your continued access or use of the Services after we make changes is deemed to be acceptance of those changes, so we encourage you to review this policy whenever you use or access the Services. We will indicate any updates to this policy by updating the “Last Updated” date at the beginning of the policy.

Children and Teens

The Services are intended for users in the United States who are at least 13 years old. If you are under the age at which you may consent to processing of personal information in your state, you may use the Services only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have done so, we will delete it. Information We Collect

When you interact with, access or use the Services, we may collect both personal and non-personal information, as described below. The term “personal information” is used in this Privacy Policy to refer to information that is not publicly available and that identifies you (or is capable of being used to identify you) or your household (e.g., name, email address, mailing address); sometimes in this Privacy Policy we refer to your personal information as “your information.” In this Privacy Policy, the term “non-personal information” is used to reference information that cannot be associated with you or your household, or that is publicly available from government records (e.g., de-identified or aggregated information). We may collect, use, disclose, and transfer non-personal information for any purpose.

Information that you provide to us:

Examples of information you provide to us include your name, email address, physical address, zip code, payment method, and telephone number. This information is collected in a number of ways, including, but not limited to, when you register on or through the Services, your interactions with customer support, marketing promotions, and surveys.

Information that we collect automatically:

There are some forms of information that we collect automatically, including:

Information about your interactions with and use of the Services including our website and mobile application.
Details about your interactions with customer support, such as the times and dates of interactions, the details of the interactions, and live-chat transcripts.
Device identifiers such as the type of device you use, the version of your browser, your operating system, and identifiers that can be used to uniquely identify your device, as well as real-time information collected through the about the location of your device.
Standard web-logging information such as page views, referral URLs, ad data, IP addresses, connection information, browser versions, and operating system versions.
Information collected via the use of cookies, web beacons and other technologies.
Information from advertising network partners about the type of ads you have viewed or interacted with.

If you do not want us to collect this information, do not access or use the Services (or delete the Services from your devices).

Information obtained from other sources:

We may supplement the information collected through the Services with information we obtain from other sources, both online and offline. Examples of this additional information includes demographic information or Internet browser behavior information. We use this data to better understand our past, current and future users and to improve the Services.

Information Processed Through RecipeBox AI Integrations

RecipeBox may make functionality available through third-party artificial intelligence platforms, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and other similar platforms (collectively, “AI Integrations”). When you use an AI Integration, we receive the information needed to perform the action you request. This may include recipe names, descriptions, ingredients, quantities, cooking instructions, dietary preferences, serving information, source URLs, and your choices to preview, save, or shop for a recipe. If you connect a RecipeBox account, we process account and authorization information needed to authenticate you and associate saved recipes with your account. We do not request your full conversation history from an AI Integration and process only information supplied for the RecipeBox action you request. We may also collect limited technical and usage information needed to operate, secure, and improve the AI Integrations, such as the RecipeBox tool used, success or error status, timestamps, device or network information received by our service, and security logs.

Our Use of Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide, analyze, administer, enhance and personalize our service and marketing initiatives. For example, we may use the information to:

Identify your general geographic location, such as a city or zip code, to determine locally available products and discounts or for other local marketing efforts.
Detect, prevent or investigate fraudulent uses of the Services.
Send you service- or marketing-related emails or push notifications.
Allow you to participate in interactive features of the Services when you choose to do so.
To monitor usage of the Services

We may use de-identified or aggregated non-personal information collected from your use of the Services to improve the content and functionality of the Services, and in connection with measurements, analytics, and advertising relationships with our partners. One such example would be to understand where our customers live in order to evaluate potential partnerships.

Use of AI Integration Information

We use information received through RecipeBox AI Integrations to display recipe information, save recipes at your direction, generate recipe images when that feature is enabled, prepare external links for shopping for recipe ingredients, authenticate connected accounts, prevent fraud and misuse, troubleshoot and secure the Services, and measure and improve app performance and product functionality. RecipeBox AI Integrations do not serve advertisements, sponsored content, or paid product placements. We do not use recipe content or AI Integration activity to target advertising to an individual.

Our Disclosure of Your Information

RecipeBox does not sell your information. There are, however, certain circumstances in which we may share your information with certain third parties without further notice to you, such as in the following examples:

Service Providers: We use other third party companies and contractors (“Service Providers”) to perform services for us or to assist in marketing, research, advertising, communications, infrastructure, and IT services in the course of providing our Services to you.

We use analytics providers, including Google Analytics and Segment where enabled for a particular Service, to measure usage and improve our products. Analytics information may include event names, timestamps, device or browser information, approximate location derived from an IP address, and a pseudonymous account or device identifier. We do not intentionally send recipe text or full AI Integration conversations to analytics providers. RecipeBox AI Integrations may use Google Analytics for limited authentication-flow events. We retain identifiable and pseudonymous product-analytics information for up to 12 months. For more information about Google’s privacy practices, visit https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Promotional Offers: We may offer joint marketing promotions that, in order for you to participate, will require that we share your information with third parties. By participating in these joint promotions, you agree to our sharing of your information. Please note that we do not control the privacy practices of any third-party businesses or guarantee that their practices are similar to ours.
Business Transfer: We may transfer your information due to a reorganization, restructuring, merger, sale, or other transfer of RecipeBox, our business or assets. We reserve the right to transfer our information, including your personal information, provided that the receiving party agrees to respect your personal information in a manner that is consistent with our Privacy Policy.
Social Media Services: If you choose to connect and share information from the Services to a social media network, the information you share is then subject to the social media service’s privacy policy.
Legal Requirements: RecipeBox may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, to protect the rights, property or safety of RecipeBox, our customers or others.
Others with access to your account: If you choose to share your account with other parties, they may have access to any of your personal information.

Either RecipeBox or our Service Providers may use cookies in your web browser or utilize tracking pixels to analyze or enhance the use of the Services. These cookies don’t collect information from your computer, but may be used to record information that you have submitted to us. One example of our use of cookies is to enable our website to remember who you are from visit to visit.

You can erase and block these cookies using the features available on your web browser. However, should you do this, it is possible that portions of the site may not function properly or at all.

RecipeBox allows third-party advertisers that are presenting ads on our behalf to set and access cookies on your web browser. The advertisers’ use of cookies or tracking pixels is subject to their own privacy policy, not this Privacy Policy.

Your Choices

If you don’t want to receive emails from us, you can simply “Unsubscribe” via a link in the email. However, there are certain administrative emails from which you can’t unsubscribe, such as service notifications and emails related to your financial transactions with us.

Our mobile app will prompt you to opt in to receive push notifications. If you later decide you don’t want to receive push notifications, you can disable them on the devices receiving the notifications.

Account and Service Choices

You may manage saved recipes and account information through the controls available on the RecipeBox website, RecipeBox mobile applications, and RecipeBox AI Integrations. Depending on the Service, you may delete individual saved recipes, update account information, manage communications and notifications, or disconnect an AI Integration. You may request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of your RecipeBox account information by contacting feedback@recipebox.com. Disconnecting an AI Integration stops future access through that connection but does not automatically delete recipes or other content already saved to your RecipeBox account. We may need to verify your identity and may retain limited information where required by law or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or recordkeeping.

Right to Access Your Information

You may have access to and the ability to update certain of your personal information through a user or account area of the Services. However, if you ever have questions about the Privacy Policy or your personal information, please contact us at feedback@recipebox.com.

Exclusions

This Privacy Policy does not apply to any Personal Information collected by RecipeBox other than the personal information collected through the Services. It does not apply to any unsolicited information you provide to RecipeBox through the Services or any other means, which includes, but is not limited to, information posted to any public areas of the Services or to related forums or social media sites. All unsolicited information is deemed non-confidential and RecipeBox will be free to reproduce, use, and disclose such information without limitation or attribution.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, physical and managerial measures to protect your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers behind firewalls.

The safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password for access to certain parts of our Services, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted to, on or through the Services (including our websites and mobile application). Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Services.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the Services. We retain identifiable and pseudonymous product-analytics information for up to 12 months. Application and security logs are retained for up to 90 days unless needed for an active security, fraud, legal, or dispute matter. Saved recipes and generated images remain until deleted by the user or the associated account is deleted. OAuth credentials remain until expiration, revocation, or account disconnection. Deleted information may remain in encrypted backups until routine overwrite. We may retain aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be linked to an individual for longer periods.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy

It is our policy to post any changes we make to our Privacy Policy on this page. The date the Privacy Policy was last revised is identified at the top of the page. You are responsible for periodically visiting our website and this Privacy Policy to check for any changes.

Transfer of Information

The Services are targeted to and intended to be viewed by users located within the United States. However, given the global nature of our society, users located outside of the United States may choose to conduct business with RecipeBox, which may result in the transfer of information internationally. Therefore, by using the Services you acknowledge and agree to the transfer of your information outside of your country of residence to any country (including the United States) where we have facilities or Service Providers. You understand that countries that we may transfer information to may not have as comprehensive a level of data protection as your country, although your personal information will continue to be protected in accordance with the standards described in this Privacy Policy.

Links to Other Sites

The Services may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third-party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Service Providers and AI Platforms

We may disclose information to service providers that support hosting, storage, security, analytics, and AI-enabled features. When recipe-image generation is enabled, recipe information needed to generate the image may be processed by an AI service provider. Third-party AI platforms and their providers, including ChatGPT provided by OpenAI, Claude provided by Anthropic, and Grok provided by xAI, process information under their own terms and privacy practices. RecipeBox receives only the information an AI Integration sends to perform the RecipeBox action you request.

External Retailer Shopping

If you choose to shop for ingredients, RecipeBox sends recipe and ingredient information to an authorized shopping or retailer integration so it can prepare an external shopping experience. RecipeBox does not share personally identifiable RecipeBox account information with the retailer through an AI Integration workflow. Any retailer visit or transaction occurs outside the AI Integration and is governed by the retailer’s own terms and privacy policy.

California Consumer Privacy Act

For residents of California, this section supplements the other portions of this Privacy Policy and explains the types of personal information we collect, use and share along with certain rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”).

To provide certain features of the Services (including our website and mobile application), we process personal information whether or not you are logged into our Services. As described above (see Business Transfer), we may share your personal information for business purposes either with your permission or otherwise where permissible under the CCPA. We don’t sell any of your personal information.

Here is a summary of categories of personal information we have collected from or about our customers or users over the last 12 months, as well as some information about how we use it and ways we may have shared it.

Parties with Whom RecipeBox Has or May Share Personal Information: • Advertising partners. • Partners who use our measurement, analytics, and advertisement services. • Partners who make Promotional Offers that you opt into. • Law enforcement or other parties in connection with legal requests. • New owners in the event of a change of ownership of control of all or part of RecipeBox, or a purchase of all or substantially all of our assets.

Under the CCPA, you have the following rights:

The Right to Understand your Data: You have the right to request that we disclose to you the personal information we collect, use, or disclose;
Right to Request Deletion: You have the right to request that we delete the personal information we have collected from you;

In order to protect your information, we will need to verify your identity before we can process your request. In some cases, we may need additional personal information to do so, such as your government issued ID.

You may exercise your rights personally or appoint and authorized agent to exercise your rights on your behalf. We may request that your authorized agent has written permission to act on your behalf. In order to verify the identity of your authorized agent, we may need to collect personal information from the agent, such as a government issued ID.
