Recipe Box: fund raising, free software, tons of recipes

With just a few mouse clicks, this ingredient list can be entered into Recipe Box:

1 cup Quaker Oats

1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 tbls baking powder

1/2 tsp salt (optional)

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 cup milk

1 egg white or whole egg, beaten

3 tbls vegetable oil

1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

Recipe Box is great for storing and managing recipes found on the internet.

Scanning in recipes from cookbooks, newspaper clippings or magazine articles is just as easy.

Recipe Box has a built in format logic which will convert a single ingredient line into 3 "invisible" fields. With other recipe programs, you would have to type in the quantity, measurement and ingredient for each line of ingredients. This can be overwhelming for recipes with a lot of ingredients.

Here is how to do it:

1.		Find the recipe you want on the internet.
2.		Start Recipe Box and open a new recipe.
3.		Copy & Paste the Recipe Name into the Name Field (use Ctrl V to paste).
4.		Add in the Serving Size, description and any categories you desire.
5.		Open the Preparation editor window.
6.		Copy & paste the preparation text from the internet recipe into Recipe Box.
7.		Close the Preparation editor.
8.		Open the Ingredients editor window.
9.		Copy & paste the Ingredient list from the internet recipe into Recipe Box.
10.		Click Format to view the three "invisible" fields.
11.		Correct any measurements as desired such as: 'c.' to 'cup' .
12.		Close the Ingredient editor.
13.		Save the recipe.

Understanding how Ingredients are handled in Recipe Box

The Ingredients window for New or Altered Recipes has a special feature all of its own. It has a built in format logic which will convert a single ingredient line into 3 "invisible" fields.

For example:

1/2 lb ground meat

pinch pepper

1 tsp. salt

tabasco to taste

3 1/2 cup tomato sauce (or chopped whole tomatoes)

Will be formatted to look like:

1/2   lb    ground meat

      pinch pepper

1     tsp   salt

            tabasco to taste

3 1/2 cup   tomato sauce (or chopped whole tomatoes)

The 3 "invisible" fields within each line of the ingredients are:

The Measurement table is a special predefined list of common units of measure.

You can add your own list of measurements by selecting Misc Stuff, Measurements, Add. Press <Alt M> to view the table while in the Ingredients window.

Plurals for each of the Measurements are acceptable.

Enter the measurement exactly as they appear in the Measurement Table. Recipe Box looks for an exact match from this list when formatting each ingredient line.

Since the Ingredient window (in the normal unexploded view) may only display the first part of the line, we recommend placing the main item following the measurement.

Good => 1 1/2 cup chopped onions

Better => 1 1/2 cup onions, chopped

The format logic is performed upon exiting the Ingredient editor or by clicking the Format button

This format logic is essential for converting serving sizes used to generate a Shopping List.
